Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

Ripely ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. It is written to comply with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who we are

Ripely is a mobile application that helps you track your home food inventory, monitor expiry dates, and discover meals to cook. The app is operated by Gian Federspiel, based in Switzerland, who acts as the data controller for the processing described here.

If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at: gian.federspiel@bluewin.ch

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, we receive a unique identifier and, where you permit it, your name and email from those providers. You may also set a display name (username) in the app.

Food inventory data. Items you add to your pantry — including names, quantities, emoji, and expiry dates — are stored in our database. Items can be marked as private; private items are only ever visible to you.

Household data. If you create or join a household, we store the household name, an invite code, and the household's membership. Other members of your household can see your display name (or, if you have not set one, the name from your sign-in provider or the part of your email address before the @) and your shared — but never your private — inventory items.

Recipes and cooking history. Recipes you save as favourites and meals you log as cooked (including portions and nutritional estimates) are stored with your account.

Voice input. When you use voice to add items, audio is processed on-device using Apple's Speech Recognition framework, and the recognised text is also interpreted on your device. We never receive or store your audio; only the resulting pantry items are saved.

Receipt photos. When you scan a receipt, the photo is transmitted via our server to Anthropic's Claude API, which extracts the purchased items. The photo is processed in transit only — it is not stored by us, and under our API agreement it is not used to train Anthropic's models.

No analytics or tracking. The app contains no analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or profiling. We do not collect usage statistics.

3. How and why we use your information

  • To provide and operate the Ripely service (performance of our contract with you)
  • To generate meal suggestions: when you request suggestions, your pantry items' names, quantities, and expiry dates are sent to Anthropic's Claude API (performance of contract)
  • To deliver sign-in codes and account emails to your email address (performance of contract)
  • To enable household sharing between members you have invited (performance of contract)
  • To maintain the security and integrity of the service (legitimate interest)

4. Third-party processors

Supabase. Our database, authentication, and server functions run on Supabase. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. supabase.com/privacy

Anthropic (Claude AI). Pantry contents (for meal suggestions) and receipt photos (for item extraction) are processed by Anthropic's API. This data is not used to train their models under our API agreement. anthropic.com/privacy

Resend. Sign-in code and account emails are delivered through Resend, which processes your email address for that purpose. resend.com/legal/privacy-policy

Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In. If you use these sign-in methods, the respective provider's privacy policy applies to the authentication step.

Apple Speech Recognition. Voice input is processed on-device. Audio does not leave your device.

Some of these providers may process data outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area (in particular in the United States). Where they do, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers maintain, such as standard contractual clauses. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

5. Data retention and deletion

We retain your account and inventory data for as long as your account is active.

You can delete your account at any time directly in the app (Profile → Delete Account). This immediately and permanently deletes your account together with your pantry, household memberships, favourites, and cooking history. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged within 30 days.

6. Your rights

Under the FADP and, where applicable, the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at gian.federspiel@bluewin.ch. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you are in the EU/EEA, with your local supervisory authority.

7. Children's privacy

Ripely is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will notify you within the app.
